Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital, is in fact the southern-most capital on the continent, and houses half of her country's population.
Montevideo originally existed as a fortress of the Spanish Empire and would later develop into a major port city in the mid-18th century.
Many of the city's historic sites are located surrounding Plaza Independencia and can be visited on our half day tour.
